Delta Center crews prep NHL ice for opening game

SALT LAKE CITY — The Delta Center, including the NHL ice, is ready to go for tonight’s season opener between the Utah Hockey Club and the Chicago Blackhawks.
Delta Center Ice Operations Manager RJ Schultz said the work they’ve done normally takes two to three years. However, they’ve been able to get it done in just six months.
“It’s crazy, right? You know, it’s been a lot of work. A lot of people doing a lot of work to get here … and we’re about to have it all pay off,” said Schultz.

Crews had just hours to remove the hardwood floor from last night’s Jazz game and switch the setup to NHL ice for hockey tonight. But, take the sweet sound of the Zamboni as an indicator the ice is ready for the puck drop.
The puck drops this evening at 8 p.m. Additionally, there will be free activities for fans outside the arena for most of the afternoon.
