WEST JORDAN, Utah — There’s a brand new way for drivers, bikers, and walkers to get across the busy Mountain View Corridor in West Jordan. On Friday night, West Jordan Mayor Dirk Burton announced that the 8600 South Bridge is officially open.
The bridge connects 5600 West and 6000 West while providing access to Ron Wood Park and Copper Hills High School.

“We waited for it, and it’s here,” Burton said in a video sent to media.
Burton said the designated sidewalks on the bridge will make travel in the area safer and easier for pedestrians.
A delayed opening
At the end of October, officials with the Utah Department of Transportation said they’d found problems during their last inspection which delayed the opening.
At that time, UDOT spokesman John Gleason said their inspectors had found small, hairline cracks on one of the bridge’s support columns.
UDOT determined that the flaw arose from the bridge’s original design and that the designer would “assume all costs associated” with the delay.
