Cow on I-84 shuts down freeway during morning commute

MOUNTAIN GREEN, Morgan County — If you like cows and cowboys, you would have loved the scene unfolding in Weber Canyon on Interstate 84 during the morning commute.
Traffic on eastbound I-84 was closed for about 30 minutes after a cow got loose. This happened about 8:15 a.m. and originally only had one left lane blocked. Then, all lanes of travel were quickly stopped as the cow weaved across the freeway.
This started in Mountain Green and ended a few miles down the road approaching Peterson. UDOT cameras showed two men on horseback, side-by-side, and two SUVs chasing the cow running freely on I-84.
Lt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol said local ranchers helped UHP troopers to catch the cow, that’s when they found where the cow came from.
“As they were looking through the area, they actually found a vehicle… a semitruck… that had lost that cow,” Roden said. “(The cow) got out of a… somehow… of a gap on the truck.”
Roden said the semi was not moving when the cow escaped, and it was returned to the owners safely.

The bovine was finally wrangled around 8:45 a.m. and loaded onto a trailer. No word on where the cow came from or what fate awaits the ‘moo-ving’ violation.
