SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — A giant sinkhole on 10600 South in South Jordan has forced the closure of the eastbound lanes of the road.
As a result, all eastbound lanes are being diverted near I-15. The sinkhole occurred in the middle lane near 400 West.
South Jordan officials said there is a storm drain under the road and they think it may have caused the ground to cave in.

They said the hole is roughly 18 feet deep and wide enough to fit an entire vehicle.
KSL NewsRadio asked one city worker how often this happens. He just shrugged his shoulders and said, “It happens.”
Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use an alternate route.
There is no estimation on how long the lanes will be closed.
