FARMINGTON — The Shepard Lane overpass in Davis County will permanently close, and that closure could come as soon as May 8 according to UDOT.

Drivers that typically use the overpass will be rerouted during the closure. The overpass will be demolished in June.

UDOT Public Relations Director John Gleason said drivers headed east or west on Shepard Lane will be detoured to Burton Lane in Kaysville. This detour will be in effect until the end of 2025.

Demolition will begin on the overpass next month.

“The overpass, we’re adding that shared bike and pedestrian path that is going to allow people to get to where they’re going in the way that they choose. It’s also going to be wider to accommodate for additional vehicles,” said Gleason.

The improved overpass is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Until then, local drivers can expect some delays as east and west drivers on Shepard Lane are detoured to Burton Lane in Kaysville.

“Those detours. . . It’s definitely something people will have to plan on for the next several months,” Gleason said. “But there is a light at the end of the tunnel and they should be able to use the new bridge at the end of this year.”

What’s in store for Shepard Lane?

When the new Shepard Lane interchange is open, it will cross the existing Union Pacific and UTA train tracks to make travel safer for pedestrians and bicyclists wishing to more easily access Park Lane.

Another change in this area involves the Legacy Parkway Trail, which is closed for the construction of the pedestrian bridge. UDOT said pedestrians and cyclists should use a detour route to travel around the closure.

The interchange is scheduled to open in late 2026, if the weather cooperates with construction schedules.
