1 killed in police ‘altercation’ after armed robbery report in Midvale, UPD says

MIDVALE — One person was killed in an “altercation” with police in Midvale on Friday after a reported armed robbery, according to the Unified Police Department.
At approximately 2:22 a.m. on Friday, UPD officers responded to the scene near 165 W. 7200 South in the parking lot near a Sportsman’s Warehouse, UPD said, in a press release.
When officers arrived, “an altercation occurred involving an individual which resulted in one fatality,” UPD said. That person was later identified as 32-year-old Dustin Pearson of West Jordan.
UPD said investigators found a knife on the scene, but did not disclose what they believe happened with it.
The “officer-involved” protocol was initiated, UPD said, and West Valley City police are investigating.
No other immediate information would be released, pending the investigation, UPD said.
