SALT LAKE CITY — A 19-year-old motorcyclist is dead after police say he crashed on state Route 101 in Blacksmith Fork Canyon, Cache County.
The Department of Public Safety said the crash happened at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Thursday. The department said the roadway curved at mile marker 10, and the rider failed to navigate the turn and ran off the road.
“At this location, the roadway is approximately 12 feet above the river. The motorcycle ran off the road near the river bridge, landing in some brush on the other side of the river, before coming to a rest in the river,” DPS said.
Authorities said the 19-year-old was wearing a helmet, but he sustained fatal injuries. Police were investigating whether speed was a factor in the crash.
DPS said the rider was from Preston, Idaho.
