2 Cedar City schools go into lockdown after receiving “verbal threat”

SALT LAKE CITY — After-school activities at two schools in Cedar City were cancelled after they received a “verbal threat” Wednesday afternoon.

After-school activities at both Canyon View Middle School and Canyon View High School were cancelled after the middle school received a “verbal threat” over the phone at around 4 p.m.

In a Facebook post, the Cedar City Police Department said officers immediately responded to the situation and conducted a search of both schools. They found no evidence of a credible threat to either school.

Shauna Lund, with the Iron County School District, said both schools immediately followed standard protocol, going into lockdown until they were cleared by police.

“Out of the utmost of caution, evening activities were cancelled at both schools, which are adjacent to one another on the north end of Cedar City,” Lund said in an email statement.
