SALT LAKE CITY — A 2-year-old died at the hospital Saturday after authorities say the child was reported missing in a wilderness area the same morning.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that they learned the child went missing in the Christmas Meadows area of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Authorities found the child shortly after receiving the reports.

The child was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Wyoming, then transferred to a hospital in Salt Lake City, the press release said. The child was pronounced dead there.

The sheriff’s office said the cause of the child’s death was still under investigation. A family member was also hospitalized for an unrelated medical concern that authorities do not believe was connected to the child’s condition, the press release said.
