Adam Pomeroy suspends campaign for Utah County Attorney, supports Jeff Gray

PROVO, Utah — Adam Pomeroy has suspended his campaign for Utah County Attorney, and has thrown his support behind Jeff Gray, another opponent of current Utah County Attorney David Leavitt.
Pomeroy made the announcement on his Facebook page.

Part of the statement reads as follows:
“Today, and especially after recent events, I am more convinced than ever of the need for a change in leadership. Something is rotten with the state of the Utah County Attorney’s Office,” the statement said.
The statement further reads:
“From the beginning of my campaign, the most important goal has always been to stop the damage Mr. Leavitt is doing by electing a new county attorney. However, it has become obvious that this goal cannot be achieved in a three-man primary.
“To that end, I am officially suspending my campaign for Utah County Attorney.”

Response from Jeff Gray
A short time after Pomeroy made his announcement, Gray issued a statement.
The statement reads:
“Today, Adam Pomeroy announced he would be leaving the race for County Attorney,” Gray said in a news release. “I want to express my appreciation for his courageous decision to challenge David Leavitt. He is firsthand witness of the abuses and the wrong-headed policies of David Leavitt. When Adam saw wrong, he was willing to step up and call out his boss. That deserves our praise. Adam is a talented prosecutor and is working on the frontlines to make Utah County safer. I am looking forward to working with Adam as we refocus the office on strong prosecution to hold criminals accountable, just as Adam also advocated during his campaign. (And) I thank Adam, and his wife, another strong prosecutor in that office, for their work to make meaningful change in Utah County. I look forward to working together in the County Attorney’s Office to protect Utah County’s families.”
The Republican primary election is June 28.
