SALT LAKE CITY — Ally Isom has announced she’s running for the US Senate. She is the latest Republican to be running to unseat Mike Lee who is up for reelection in 2022.

In Isom’s campaign video she explains her intended involvement within every community in Utah.

Isom was Governor Gary Herbert’s Deputy Chief of Staff for three years. She additionally worked as the Director of Family and Community Relations and was the head of Global Branding for a time for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“I offer a broad experience across public, private, non-profit, and community sectors,” Isom told KSL NewsRadio.

She has four kids and is a grandma to five. Isom calls herself a classic conservative and believes the Republican party needs a renaissance.

“Our nation is at a critical crossroads. It’s time to return to the fundamental conservative principles we share—responsibility for our shared future, fiscal discipline, limited government, valuing life and respecting others,” Isom said.

“Public dialog is often more about personalities than ideas, more about division than solutions,” Isom claimed. “We can do better.”

She believes Utah’s greatest need for representation right now in Washington is fiscal discipline.

“We’re approaching $20 trillion dollars and much of that debt is to China and I think that’s unacceptable,” Isom said. “We have a national cybersecurity challenge on our hands right this minute.”

She added, “The US senate is a team sport. It needs someone who is going to work with others and play well together to get things done.”

Isom plans to walk a mile in every community in Utah this summer and to wear her “red” running shoes.

“[I’m] walking the communities of our state to better understand what’s top of mind, and what’s in their hearts, and what do they care most about, and what they want done in Washington DC. I think that’s my biggest priority,” Isom said.

Utah has never elected a woman to the US Senate.

Becky Edwards, another GOP challenger, also announced her campaign earlier this year.

Utah’s primary election date is June 28, 2022.
