No reservations needed at Arches National Park until end of August

MOAB — Arches National Park is pausing its timed entry reservation system.
That system, which was put in place four years ago to try to handle record-breaking crowds, requires visitors to reserve a spot between April and October in order to enter the park.
But starting Monday and continuing through Aug. 27, that’s no longer the case.
“This is the first time that we’re doing a pause in our timed entry reservation system,” said Arches spokesperson Karen Henker. “We’re doing it because maybe we don’t need a reservation system to control crowding when visitation always slows down this time of year because it’s so dang hot.”
Visitors to Arches on Monday were among the first to get in without having to first claim a spot.
Arches National Park sees shorter wait times
“We couldn’t come the day we had a reservation,” added Melissa Tanner, from Heber, “so we just decided to come back in today, and it was great.”
The reservation requirement will resume on Aug. 28, just before Labor Day weekend, and continue until Oct. 31.
Henker said the timed entry system is still a pilot program, but there’s no word yet if it will become permanent.
Reservation or not, visitors to Arches told KSL TV the park did not disappoint.
“It’s absolutely majestic,” Tanner said. “We had an incredible time. It was beautiful.”
