Beaver Mountain delays opening until after Christmas, first time in several decades

Dec 23, 2025, 7:19 PM

LOGAN — In a rare turn of events, management at Beaver Mountain Ski Resort made the unexpected decision to delay opening until after Christmas.

Mountain Operations Manager Travis Seeholzer says, to his knowledge, it’s the first time they’ve had to do that since at least 1977, possibly longer.

“We’re heartbroken we can’t be open for Christmas,” Seeholzer said. “If we had more [snow] or colder temperatures, we’d have great snow because we’ve had plenty of precipitation and pretty good weather.”

Several out-of-town visitors were seen making the best of what snow there was at Beaver Mountain on Tuesday. Vincent Gao says his family has been coming there for Christmas from Southern California every year since 2019.

“It’s definitely different for sure,” Gao explained. “The snow conditions is, it’s like hard [and] a little bit icy compared to previous years.”

Gao says his family will keep an eye on when the resort does open, and possibly come back for spring break.

It feels like home here,” Gao said. “Honestly, this specific resort, compared to the other newer ones, I would say there’s so much history, and the people here are awesome.”

Seeholzer says opening, however, could come relatively soon. The mountain has been groomed, and staff are prepared to come back to work when needed. He’s keeping an optimistic view while looking at a storm forecast for Saturday.

“We are more than ready, and we can open the drop of a hat,” Seeholzer said.
