Bicyclist dies after being hit by car in Sandy

SANDY — A man died Thursday after he was hit while riding his bicycle on Wednesday, according to police.
On Wednesday, around 10:15 p.m., police responded to the crash at 400 E. 10600 South.
A 55-year-old man had been attempting to cross the street with his bicycle when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old woman, according to Sandy Police Sgt. Michael Olsen. He said the man was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
The Sandy Police Department requested that the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office take charge of the investigation after “identifying a conflict of interest,” according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
The crash investigation was ongoing as of Friday.
