ST. GEORGE — A man has died after a trench caved in on him while he was working Wednesday afternoon.
St. George Fire Chief Robert Stoker told KSL TV that rescue crews were called to a trench collapse near 900 N Grand Heights Drive. The man’s wife hadn’t seen her husband for a while, as he had been working inside a trench outside their home. She tried to find him but couldn’t.
The wife noticed a part of the trench was caved in and called for first responders.
Stoker said they found the 54-year-old man buried in two feet of soil and dead. Crews recovered him at approximately 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to Stoker.
He told KSL TV crews were still working to repair utilities to the home that were in the trench.
