Man found dead in the Silver Island Mountains identified, but his UTV is missing, police say

SALT LAKE CITY — The man found dead in the Silver Island Mountains has been identified by the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, but authorities say his UTV has not been found.
On Monday, the sheriff’s office said a person found the body of Michael Steven Comstock, 62, of Sandy, on July 12 in a remote area of the mountains and reported it to authorities.
“Mr. Comstock’s vehicle and an empty UTV trailer were located off Interstate 80 in Tooele County. Mr. Comstock was found approximately 20 miles from his vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
The sheriff’s office said Comstock rode his UTV north on the mountains and “for reasons currently unknown,” he was separated from his vehicle and was attempting to walk back to it.
“Despite extensive efforts by the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office and the Box Elder County Search and Rescue Team, the UTV belonging to Mr. Comstock has not yet been located,” the sheriff’s office said.
According to the sheriff’s office, Comstock’s UTV is a 2008 Polaris Ranger. Anyone with information about it should contact the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office Detective Tip Line at 435-734-6530.
