SALT LAKE CITY — Police say a woman’s drowsy driving might have caused her to drive her car into the Jordan River Thursday afternoon.
According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, dispatchers were told a woman was stuck in an SUV after driving off the road. A caller told police the driver had crashed into the Jordan River near 2000 N. Rose Park Lane.
When first responders arrived, the 22-year-old driver had climbed out of the passenger side window. Police reported she was uninjured.
According to police, after the SUV crashed into the water, the car came to a rest on the river’s bank. This prevented it from sinking further.
“Officers are investigating whether the driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel and failed to properly maintain her lane of travel,” SLCPD said in a press release.
Today, our officers responded to a traffic crash in the Rose Park neighborhood where an SUV ended up in the Jordan River.
Officers are looking into whether the driver may have fallen asleep and drifted off the road.
