SALT LAKE CITY — A boy was flown to the hospital after being swept away in the Weber River Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday afternoon, Sgt. Jensen with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said the 17-year-old boy died in the hospital. His identity was not released at the time of publication.
Lt. Sean Endsley with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that emergency crews received a call about a possible drowning in Weber County at approximately 5:30 p.m.
He said some kids were playing near the river when two of them went in the river — only one came out, so people called 911.
“Weber County Sheriff’s Office, Weber Fire District and the Weber County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team, along with our drone team responded out to start searching, and after about 90 minutes, about an hour and a half of searching, they recovered the boy from the water,” Endsley said.
Endsley said the water in the Weber River was moving quickly.
