Filming of the final season of popular series “The Chosen” has returned to Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — Filming of the final season of the popular series “The Chosen” has returned to Utah.

“Rolling, rolling, quiet please, quiet please…”

Hundreds of extras, costumed like the people of Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and the religious leaders, the Pharisees and the Roman soldiers all help set the scene for season seven of “The Chosen.”

The cast and crew are once again using the Jerusalem set, which belongs to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

As they return for their final season of filming in Goshen, Utah, Dallas Jenkins said this set has been invaluable to the production.

“Utah is so welcoming and so warm, and the set itself has such a great spirit to it, and that people here are so wonderful. I’m a little sad, but this is one of the best places to film in the world, I love it!”

Season five brought us the Last Supper, the Betrayal and Christ’s suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane, followed by his arrest.

Season six, premiering this fall, will focus on the crucifixion.

Season seven picks up the story immediately after and focuses on the Resurrection and those who see Christ for the next 40 days.

On our tour through the set with Art Director, B. J. Forman, he told us all designers strive to recreate the time period.

This season looks like the markets of Jerusalem, just after Passover.

“What we can figure out, what we can find out in the history books, online and through archaeology, we try to bring to the show as authentic as we can. And that’s the word that we hear from Dallas, that’s the word at the top of every whiteboard when we go into any meeting, ‘authenticity,’ that’s where we try to stem everything from,” Forman said.

“The Chosen” remains the most successful crowd-funded production in history, and key supporters who donate and pay their own expenses to be extras.

Sisters-in-law Deb Lazarz from Upton, Massachusetts, and Mary Plumb from Colchester, Vermont, are united in faith and their love of this show.

Lazarz said, “I am so grateful to be able to share it with so many friends and family who also share that, and especially my sister-in-law.”

Plumb has loved this opportunity.

“It just feels kind of other-worldly. It makes me feel like we’re a part of the story.”

Linda from Yucaipa, California, has come for the third year and has found comfort following the death of her husband.

“It’s the place just recently in my life that kind of brought sunlight back into my existence,” Linda said.

But the driving force behind this production is Dallas Jenkins, creator and director, who believes passionately in its timing.

“I didn’t set out to make the show because of a particular time, but I do believe in God’s providence that it has come at exactly the right time and I’m just grateful to be a part of it.”

I asked him about the completion of this series and whether there will be more? He said that’s the first question everyone who meets him asks because this show resonates with people around the world.

“Reminding people that these were actual human beings seems to be a cracking of the code for a lot of viewers, so look, if God wants me to be making Bible stories for the rest of my life, I could do a lot worse.”

That sounds like a ‘yes.’

The creative mind of Dallas Jenkins is already planning.

But first, what millions of viewers are familiar with.

“Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees! Jesus shouts. “Stop this at once!” counters Shmuel.

The drama, the beauty, the life of Jesus Christ in the New Testament Gospels production of “The Chosen” continues.

Season six will stream on Prime Video starting November 15th, 2026.

Then, in the spring of 2027, the crucifixion story will have a global theatrical release on Amazon MGM Studios. Season 7 will follow sometime after that.
