Church announces site of temple in Spain; work on Mexico temple begins

SALT LAKE CITY — The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday the site of the Barcelona Spain Temple. It was also announced that work on the Querétaro Mexico Temple has begun.
According to a news release, the temple will be built at the intersection of Avinguda de la Vía Augusta and Avinguda de la Clota, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain. The church says this temple will be a two-story structure of roughly 27,500 square feet.
The temple was first announced in April 2022 by church President Russell M. Nelson. It will be the second temple in Spain. The Madrid Spain Temple was dedicated in 1999.
According to the news release, design plans for the temple are still being worked on. Additional information, including exterior renderings, will be announced at a later time. A groundbreaking date will also be announced at a future time.
Querétaro Mexico Temple
The church also announced Monday construction work has begun on the Querétaro Mexico Temple with the groundbreaking ceremony on Jan. 7, 2023.
Elder Adrián Ochoa, General Authority Seventy, presided at the event. The temple will be built on 3.58 acres of land, located in the city of Santiago de Querétaro. It is located roughly 130 miles northwest of Mexico City.
The temple was first announced by President Nelson in April 2021.
Bonneville International Corporation, the company that owns KSL NewsRadio, is a subsidiary of Deseret Management Corporation, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
