Construction on new I-15 interchange in Sunset begins next week

SUNSET — More construction barrels are coming to the I-15 corridor in Davis County next week.
The Utah Department of Transportation will begin constructing a new I-15 interchange at 1800 North in Sunset and widening the road up to 2000 West. Construction is expected to start on March 17.
“[The goal of the project] is to address the growth that we’ve seen with the traffic we’ve seen on interchanges to the immediate north and south,” said UDOT spokesperson Mitch Shaw.
Shaw explained that due to the traffic impact from the nearby 5600 South project, crews will prioritize widening 1800 North until the 5600 South crew wraps up work on I-15 later this year.
“Not only [will it] take pressure off those interchanges to the north and south of where 1800 (North) will be, but we also … open up another gate,” said Shaw.
Construction outcomes
According to the project overview, when completed it will include seven lanes from I-15 to 250 West and five lanes from 250 West to 2000 West. Additionally, there will be a new bridge over the rail crossing.

The entire project is slated for completion in fall 2027, with plans to add a new gate to Hill Air Force Base sometime after that.
