Gov. Cox directs labor union referendum to be submitted to voters at 2026 general election

SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Spencer Cox issued an executive order on Monday directing the referendum regarding HB267, Public Sector Labor Union Amendments, to be submitted to voters at the 2026 general election.

According to a news release, “this directive is required by statute, and follows Lt. Governor Henderson’s declaration on June 21, 2025, that a referendum petition challenging H.B. 267 garnered a sufficient number of voter signatures.”

The order allows Utahns to have the ultimate say on whether the state will have public unions moving forward.
