Driver ejected, killed in Sevier County crash after evading troopers, UHP says

SALT LAKE CITY — One person was killed on Interstate 70 Tuesday night after fleeing from Utah Highway Patrol troopers and crashing, UHP says.
Just before 10:45 p.m., a vehicle came speeding up behind a trooper who was traveling eastbound. The trooper first let the car pass, and then attempted to pull the driver over, according to Lt. Cam Roden with UHP.
The car would not stop though, he said, and it continued onward at a high rate of speed. Troopers then made a first attempt at stopping it with spikes near mile marker 40, but the car continued forward, Roden said.
Spikes were attempted again at Mike marker 43 near Richfield, Roden said, but the car swerved right to avoid them and left the roadway. The car rolled, causing the driver to be ejected.
Troopers began to try and save the driver’s life, and a medical helicopter was flown out to the scene. However, the driver died of their injuries before they could be flown, Roden said.
UHP did not provide the driver’s name.
