Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run accident identified; Murry police continue search for two drivers

MURRAY — Police have identified the pedestrian who died in a hit-and-run last Thursday, but investigators are still looking for those responsible.

On Monday, the Murray Police Department said that 53-year-old Kimberley Jean Jespersen was crossing 4500 South from the southeast corner of State Street at approximately 11 p.m.

Police said that when Jespersen was crossing in the crosswalk, she was hit by a dark colored hatchback passenger car that was turning east.

“It then appears that Kimberley is standing at the driver’s side window of that vehicle as it is stopped in the eastbound lanes when the eastbound signal turns green,” Murray police said in a statement.

After the light changed, a dark colored truck traveling eastbound on 4500 South State Street approached the intersection where Jespersen and the passenger car were stopped. The truck appeared to “swerve to avoid a collision with the stopped vehicle and struck Kimberely,” police said.

 

After Kimberely was hit by the truck, both vehicles drove eastbound on 4500 South and left the scene.

“The impact of the accident with the second vehicle caused critical injuries to Kimberely and she was transported to the hospital but unfortunately passed away because of those injuries,” police said.

The latest in fatal hit-and-run 

Police are searching for the two cars involved in this incident. Police believe the truck would have front passenger-side damage.
