2 rescued after hot air balloon crashes into power lines in La Verkin

SALT LAKE CITY — A hot air balloon crashed into power lines in La Verkin on Saturday morning.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the balloon crashed just before 10 a.m. near 300 S State St.

The Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue said two people were inside the hot air balloon’s basket when it crashed and they were uninjured, however the balloon was found to have sustained damage.

“Crews immediately established a safety perimeter and instructed the occupants to remain in the basket until the power line could be safely de-energized,” the fire and rescue said. “Once Rocky Mountain Power arrived on scene and confirmed the line was de-energized, the occupants were able to exit the basket safely.”

According to fire and rescue, the power lines were not damaged when the balloon crashed into them.
