SALT LAKE CITY – Some may have noticed on Sunday that their social media was full of one term: “May the 4th be with you.” But what does that mean?

On May 4th every year since the movie “Star Wars” came out in 1977, fans of the movie gather together in different ways to celebrate the film series. The date to celebrate was unofficially chosen because of the “Star Wars” pretty well-known quote, “May the force be with you.” Sounds a lot like May the 4th be with you, right?

How are people in America celebrating May 4th?

From photos of people with lightsabers on social media, to people gathering at Disney’s Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite celebration, a lot of people seem to love celebrating the day.

Even President Donald Trump joined in on the celebration when the White House posted a photo of him with a red lightsaber on its X account.

How to celebrate in Utah

The easiest way to celebrate would probably be to grab some popcorn, relax and watch some “Star Wars” movies.

However, there are some places around Utah that are celebrating the unofficial “Star Wars” day.

Clark Planetarium is holding a special event from noon to 3 p.m. According to its website, “Star Wars” characters will be present for photo ops at the event.

Another way to celebrate is to grab some “Star Wars” themed cocktails and food at the Sundance Mountain Resort in Provo. According to its website, the resort is serving its themed food and cocktails from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.

“Costumes are highly encouraged—whether you’re a scruffy-looking nerf herder or elegant royalty from an ancient desert planet,” the Sundance Mountain Resort said on its website.

Lastly, Utah has many places ready for a visit that look quite similar to the backgrounds seen in the “Star Wars” movies. Some of those places might be the Bonneville Salt Flats, the “Star Wars” themed resort in Beryl called Outpost X and Lake Powell.
