Intoxicated man arrested after allegedly killing two kittens, police say

OGDEN — An intoxicated man was arrested on March 29 after a fight led to the discovery of two dead kittens, according to the Odgen Police Department.
According to the booking affidavit, police received a call from 18-year-old Edwin Chavez’s girlfriend about a family-related fight.
During the call, dispatch said they allegedly heard Chavez yell, “I’m going to kill you!”
The suspect was believed to have been intoxicated, according to the affidavit. Liquor was found in his bedroom, along with shot glasses, which still had alcohol in them.
Police said they saw Chavez punching his brother in the face when they arrived.
In the garage, police said they found two lifeless kittens in a cat bed, with fresh blood on the ground.
The affidavit stated that Chavez became angry when the kittens urinated in the bed and began hitting them against the wall.
OPD said it was reported that Chavez allegedly killed his girlfriend’s cat. Police had previously responded to a report that Chavez stole her cat.
Police said Chavez then grabbed her by the throat and tried to suffocate her with a pillow while she was in bed.
After being placed into handcuffs, police said they found a “THC vape pen” in Chavez’s pocket.
The affidavit stated that Chavez was arrested for intoxication, aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of aggravated cruelty to an animal.
