SALT LAKE CITY — After surviving a shooting in December of 2024 that killed his immediate family, Sha Reh died unexpectedly on Sunday.

Police say the attack was a murder-suicide carried out by his father inside the family’s West Valley City home. Reh, who was 17-years-old at the time, was found inside the garage with a gunshot wound to the head. He survived for two days before being discovered. His mother and three siblings were killed.

Reh was left nearly blind and severely injured, but would go on to make a miraculous recovery and graduate from Granger High School. His dream was to attend the University of Utah and major in pre-law. His death comes just days after starting classes at Utah.

Reh’s passing was confirmed to KSL by his extended family, who issued this statement:

“While we are devastated at the news of his death, the knowledge of the joy of his reunion with his
family exceeds our pain. He was among those who were once blind, but now can see. He has a
perfect vision of his and his family’s eternity, and his home is now with them. Caring for him and
watching him grow and regain his independence has been a labor of love for our family.”

Reh’s family did not provide a cause of death.

We want to hear from you.
