Man dies after being caught in Big Cottonwood Canyon avalanche on Saturday

SALT LAKE CITY — A 57-year-old man has died after getting caught in an avalanche in Big Cottonwood Canyon on Saturday.
The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office stated the avalanche, which took place near Butler Fork, injured two men. One, the 57-year-old man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, and the other, a 48-year-old man, was transported in serious condition.
The 48-year-old man has since been released from the hospital.
At this time the sheriff’s office has not identified the two men or released specific details on the 57-year-old man’s injuries.
