SALT LAKE CITY — A 38-year-old man was found dead at a youth camp for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Thursday.
Josh Probst, with the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, said the man was part of a youth group camping at the Chalet Campground, which is part of Wasatch Mountain State Park.
Probst said the man was an adult leader of the group. He slept in an enclosed trailer on Wednesday night, and on Thursday morning, he was found deceased by other leaders.
While at this time, the cause of death is unknown, Probst said, inside the enclosed trailer was charcoal in a Dutch oven. The sheriff’s office theorized that the man had used it as a heat source, which caused carbon monoxide to fill the trailer, killing him. The State Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.
At this time, the sheriff’s office is not releasing the man’s identity.
