SALT LAKE CITY — On Monday, May 5, KSL NewsRadio launched a new show, “Midday with Maria Shilaos.” Hosted by respected journalist and longtime KSL NewsRadio Host Maria Shilaos, the show is an expansion of KSL NewsRadio’s “Utah’s Noon News,” and airs weekdays from 12-3 p.m.
“Midday with Maria Shilaos” focuses on news stories of the day with a specific goal of connecting with those whom the news affects most.
“As a respected journalist, Maria Shilaos has earned the trust of listeners across Utah. This new show isn’t just about the news — it’s about the people behind it,” said Andy Cupp, the show’s executive producer. “We’re excited to connect with listeners and know we’ll add value to their lives as they tune in each day.”
Shilaos has been recognized many times by the Utah Broadcasters Association and the Society of Professional Journalists for both her anchoring and reporting abilities. She has also received several regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, including the 2017 Murrow Award for Best Newscast for her role as host of “Utah’s Noon News”. Shilaos is also the host of “The KSL Greenhouse Show”, and the “Let’s Get Moving with Maria” podcast.
“This new show gives us the opportunity to spend more time with thought-provoking stories and zero in on how they affect you and your family,” Shilaos said. “The news can often seem heavy, so this gives a chance to lighten the load a bit and bring listeners heartwarming stories.”
Outside of the station, Shilaos teaches Radio Journalism and Podcasting at the University of Utah. She holds a second-degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and has spent many hours teaching martial arts at her neighborhood elementary school.
Gardening is also one of Shilaos’ passions, which she describes as a rewarding form of artistic expression and wonderful therapy.
“Midday with Maria Shilaos” replaces KSL’s “Inside Sources”, which has benefited from the perspectives of a stable of rotating hosts since full-time Host Boyd Matheson stepped away in November.
Join Maria each weekday as she digs deeper, asks the important questions, and shares stories that connect our community.
