World’s largest data center could be built in Millard County

SALT LAKE CITY — A company from Orem hopes to build what’s being called the largest data center campus in the world.

The Millard County Commission recently approved a zoning change for the project, proposed by Fibernet MercuryDelta, outside Delta. 

The 20-million-square-foot data center would sit on 1,200 acres of land, which has a natural gas line and a fiber line on its perimeter.

“There is a lot of open country in Millard County and that was just a big parcel of ground that made sense with the location of those other utilities,” Commission Chair Trevor Johnson said.

The company hopes to attract big companies to use the space, according to Johnson.

He also said the company would boost the tax base and help lower property taxes for residents. 

“One of the big things that I like about it is, tax base for our county is going to be quite significant, which will be a relief to all of our residents. It should lower their home taxes. It should lower all property taxes.”

Johnson said there could be up to 150 high-paying jobs.

The project still needs to get final approval.
