‘No Kings’ organizer 50501 cuts ties with Salt Lake branch after fatal shooting

SALT LAKE CITY — The national organizer behind last weekend’s ‘No Kings’ protest is cutting ties with the Salt Lake City branch following Saturday’s deadly protest.

The 50501 Movement posted a statement on its social media accounts Thursday afternoon denouncing the violence at the Salt Lake City “No Kings” protest.

“50501 is rooted in nonviolence,” the organization wrote, saying it has a strict no-weapons policy.

A peacekeeper who volunteered with 50501 to work as security for the rally was the one who fired shots, hitting Arthur “Afa” Folasa Ah Loo, an innocent bystander. 

The organization said the Salt Lake City branch disregarded its values and, therefore, they are no longer affiliated.

“Due to SLC 50501’s disregard for our nonnegotiable values, we are no longer affiliated,” the organization said in a comment under its post.

The Salt Lake City branch has not said if they knew peacekeepers would have weapons.

The 50501 Movement is a grassroots organization that plans protests across the U.S.
