SALT LAKE CITY — Nearly a thousand people gathered for the “Not My President” President’s Day protest at Utah’s capitol on Monday.
The crowd brought homemade signs and sang the national anthem. Since it was a federal holiday and schools were closed, some people brought their kids.

Some protesters said they were there to protest some of the actions taken by President Trump during the beginning of his second term.
Harmony Ferrill pointed to her children as her reason for attending the Monday afternoon protest.
“I want my children to see that when they see an unprecedented situation, we can still stand up for our belief system and let our voices be heard,” Ferrill said.

Bree Zabriskie also attended the protest with her children. She said she’s had a lot of support from agencies like the Department of Education for issues like ADHD. She said it’s important these services stay put.
“There’s no way I want to go to a place where we don’t have federal support for education,” she said. “Also, inclusion. All of it. It’s so important to us.”
Others told KSL NewsRadio that the removal of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs, the loss of federal jobs, and Elon Musk’s involvement in the Trump Administration were their reasons for attending.
