SALT LAKE CITY — Further details have been released in connection with a shooting in Ogden that killed a teenager.

Police initially responded to the incident Saturday night, where they found one teenager had been shot and killed at an Ogden residence.

A probable cause statement identifies the suspect as 16-year-old Hezekiah Plummer.

Plummer is facing five charges, including murder, obstruction of justice, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor.

According to the statement, a man living at the residence where the incident took place said he was woken up by gunshots that same night. He told police he was asleep upstairs when he was woken up by the shots. At first, he thought they were “distant,” but then realized they were “very close.”

After hearing the gunshots, he ran downstairs to check on the children, Plummer and a 15-year-old girl. As the man ran downstairs, he encountered Plummer coming up the staircase carrying a firearm.

“Plummer made a statement about a ‘robbery’ and mentioned a name of someone else that he claimed tried to rob them,” the statement read.

Plummer then fled from the home. Following this, the man found the 15-year-old girl in her room with a fatal gunshot wound and called the police.

According to the statement, Plummer and the 15-year-old girl were dating.

“Plummer was known to run away from home and he resided in the home with the victim for substantial periods of time,” the statement read.

The girl’s mother arrived on the scene shortly after police did and explained that Plummer was at the home with her daughter when she left for work at around 2:40 a.m. She said Plummer had shown up to the house at around 1 a.m. saying he had nowhere to stay.

“The victim indicated it would be fine for Plummer to stay and he was allowed in the home,” the statement read.

The girl’s mother then went back to bed before later leaving for work. She said that at some point before leaving for work she woke up to Plummer in her room. He said he was looking for a “backpack.” She told him it wasn’t in her room and then he left.

Prior to the shooting, the girl’s mother purchased a firearm, according to the statement. After the shooting, the box for the firearm was found in the victim’s room and the firearm itself was missing.

“Mother indicated that she had seen the firearm earlier the prior evening in her bedroom and it should not be in the daughter’s room,” the statement reads.

Police found a single casing in the hallway outside of the 15-year-old girl’s bedroom. Along with this, they found seven cartridge casings outside and a “significant distance” from the home.

The statement read that police eventually located Plummer. He was found to have several ounces of marijuana and $4,080 cash in his possession.

“The amount (of marijuana) possessed by Plummer was significantly larger than a user would possess and indicative of an intent to distribute,” the statement read.

Plummer has been booked into the Davis County Jail and is being charged as an adult.

KSL does not typically name juvenile suspects, but did so in this case since Plummer is being charged in adult court.
