TOOELE  — Multiple charges have been filed against Oscar Fayani, age 27, a driver who, according to witnesses, tried to force a Tesla off Interstate 80 in Tooele.

A charging document filed with Tooele District Court states that Oscar Fayani was charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, second- and third-degree felonies, respectively.

Police are seeing more reckless driving in Utah

Fayani is also charged with reckless driving, driving on a suspended or revoked license and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Multiple calls of a reckless driver on I-80

First responders received several calls in the late morning of April 18, 2025, involving what witnesses described as a reckless driver on westbound I-80. The incidents began in Parleys Canyon in Salt Lake City and extended for approximately 40 miles into Tooele County.

During that time, Oscar Fayani, driving a gold sedan, was reportedly driving too slow, according to witnesses, and then too fast, cutting off and tailgating other drivers.

In another instance, charging documents state that Fayani was driving parallel to a black Tesla on westbound I-80 when a witness “saw the gold sedan swerve into the Tesla’s lane ‘on purpose’ to attempt to push it off of the road.” The witness admitted to driving “over 100 miles per hour,” and told officials the sedan and Tesla were pulling away from him.

The witness said the sedan and Tesla were exceeding speeds of 100 miles per hour.

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper got involved when he observed Fayani drifting in and out of a lane near mile marker 99 in Tooele County. Another trooper stopped the Tesla driver, who admitted he’d been speeding “over 100 mph” in an attempt to get away from Fayani.
