SALT LAKE CITY — The Park City Library held a Storytime on the Trolley day on Aug. 29, showing people that storytime and trolleys aren’t just for Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.

Park City Library Adult Services Assistant, Kelly Miller said around 40 to 50 people came to the event including parents and children.

“They’re delighted,” Miller said. “Some of [the children,] have never been on the trolley … some of the adults have never been on the trolley.”

The free service was held on a public trolley where a librarian would read stories to dozens of families. One story read to the public was even about riding the bus.

“Definitely a multi-teaching opportunity for both the adults and the children,” Miller said.

The event was used as a way to promote both reading and public transit. According to Miller, the reading allows families to get a feel for public transit, in return they will hopefully be more likely to use it regularly.

The more families become comfortable with using public transit, the more likely it will cut down on traffic and smog. And the next generation that’s along for the ride just may make an even bigger difference in the years to come.
