UDOT: Drivers should expect heavy delays in Parleys Canyon this weekend

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Transportation said there will be delays in Parleys Canyon this weekend, related to events and construction. 

On the evenings of July 25 and 26, both directions of Interstate 80 will only have one lane open to accommodate a paving project between the mouth of the canyon and Mountain Dell Reservoir.

UDOT said that eastbound lane closures could start as early as 7 p.m. on both days. Westbound closures will begin slightly later, by 10:30 p.m. 

Utah transportation officials did not say when the affected lanes will reopen. 

This project will take place between Parleys Canyon exits 131 and 134. Provo Canyon and I-84 may be used as alternate routes.

UDOT expects summer recreation and events to complicate the situation. Deer Valley Music Festival and Park City Performing Arts’ Concerts on the Slopes are both scheduled this weekend. 

On July 25, Violinist Lindsey Stirling will perform at Deer Valley’s Snow Park Amphitheater. Meanwhile at Park City Mountain Resort’s Canyons Village, Concerts on the Slopes will host ’80s Night. 

The next day, both venues will host another event. Tony Award-winning entertainers Sutton Foster and Kelli O’Hara will perform at Deer Valley. Chris Botti, a world-renowned trumpeter and composer, will perform at Canyons Village. 

“We know construction isn’t easy, and want everyone to enjoy their time off and have a relaxing weekend,” UDOT Traveler Information Director Becky Parker said.

“So plan ahead, leave early or take the alternate routes so that you don’t feel rushed or stressed while driving up to Park City.”
