Pedestrian hit, killed on Redwood Road in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — A person was killed after they were hit by a vehicle in Salt Lake City on Wednesday morning, according to police on scene.
Officer Greg Lovell with the Salt Lake City Police Department said two cars were heading southbound at 6 a.m. when a pedestrian began walking west across Redwood Road near 1500 South.
According to Lovell, one driver saw the person crossing and stopped, while another driver in a different lane failed to see the person and struck them.
Lovell said the pedestrian was walking about 15 to 20 feet outside of a crosswalk when they were hit and killed. He said it’s worth taking the time for pedestrians to find a crosswalk when crossing the road.
“We always encourage everyone to cross with the lights and in crosswalk,” Lovell said. “If you’re a little bit aways from an intersection, take the time to go to a crosswalk. It’s where drivers are trained to look for pedestrians and it’s definitely the most safe place to cross.”
Northbound traffic on Redwood Road was diverted at 1700 South, while southbound traffic was diverted at California Avenue.
Lovell said the driver involved stayed on scene and was cooperative as the investigation took place.
