SALT LAKE CITY — While Brigham Young University dates back to the 1800s, it isn’t the only historical location in Provo that dates that far back.
The Provo Community Congregational United Church of Christ is celebrating 135 years of faith, service and community impact.
“This milestone is both a celebration and a moment of gratitude,” said Dave Lewis, Church Moderator. “Our church has always been about showing up for our neighbors. We honor those who built this legacy and look forward to continuing that work for generations to come.”
Founded in 1891, Provo Community Congregational United Church of Christ is celebrating on March 1 at 11 a.m. in Provo.
“Whether you’ve been here for decades or are new to our church family, we would love for you to be part of this meaningful day,” the church’s website proclaims.
The celebration comes after the chapel began major renovations in December 2021 to house a 1892 45-rank pipe organ donated to them by a Salt Lake City church that was slated for demolition.
The church building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in the summer of 2022 and given a Stewardship Award from the Provo Landmarks Commission for its work to preserve the buildings.
