SALT LAKE CITY — A public open house for the McAllen Texas Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will begin Friday, Aug. 25.
The open house will run through Saturday, Sept. 9, with the exception of Sundays. Media and invited guests began touring the temple on Monday, Aug. 21.
The temple will then be dedicated on Oct. 8 by Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
President Russell M. Nelson first announced the temple in October 2019. The McAllen Texas Temple will be a single-story structure, according to a news release from the church. It will sit on 10.61 acres of land and will be roughly 27,897 square feet.
According to the release, the McAllen Texas Temple is the fifth temple to be completed in Texas. The locations of the other temples are Dallas, Houston, Lubbock, and San Antonio. Additionally, there are three other temples that are either under construction or planned in Austin, Fort Worth and Prosper.
Bonneville International Corporation, the company that owns KSL NewsRadio, is a subsidiary of Deseret Management Corporation, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
