SALT LAKE CITY — Starting Monday, you won’t be able to take the ramps from Redwood Road to access north or southbound Interstate 215, nor to access westbound Interstate 80 or westbound I-80 from Redwood Road.

It’s phase one of a project to revamp some 11 bridges on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley. These Redwood Road ramps are first, then UDOT crews will shift their focus to the ramps to other bridges.

“Each phase, when we close these ramps, [they] could be closed for approximately 30 days to a month,” said Kyler Sharp, the spokesperson for UDOT’s Region two.

Redwood Road ramps are just the start

Thousands of drivers pass through the I-215 construction zone daily. For months, they’ve been adjusting to lane shifts and jersey barriers while construction continues in the area.

“It’s one of our biggest projects of the year, and we’re making great progress,” Sharp said. “I mean, if you drive through that work zone, you see the road’s all ripped up, and it seems like they’re making progress every single day.”

Sharp said the overall project is still on track to be completed sometime in 2027. But this spring and summer, they need to close several ramps, a few at a time, to accommodate much-needed bridge work.

“We’re going to close multiple ramps, and today is the start of the first phase,” Sharp said.

Drivers who regularly use Redwood Road to access I-215’s west-side belt and I-80 westbound will need to plan ahead for the closure for the next few weeks. Later in the spring and summer, other west side ramps will follow suit. Sharp said the ramp closures should all be finished by the time kids head back to school.

UDOT has the latest closure information on its project website and will continue to update it as the dates for future closures change.
