SALT LAKE CITY — Investigators looking into a fire that spread to cover more than 50 acres of land on Monday said the blaze appears to have been started by a remote-controlled airplane.

Shortly before 3 p.m., Utah Fire Info said a fire was burning west of Plain City in Weber County. No structures were threatened and firefighters were responding to the blaze.

Just over an hour later, Utah Fire Info posted an update, explaining that the blaze had been contained at 54.9 acres burned.

“The investigation points to a remote-controlled airplane striking power lines as the cause of the fire,” Utah Fire Info said.

No new updates are expected unless conditions surrounding the fire change.
