SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City is number 10 for cities in the country with the best public transit system, according to a study by Consumer Affairs.
Utah Transit Authority spokesperson Gavin Gustafson said UTA is honored and thrilled to be ranked number 10, alongside cities that are considered to be the gold standard for transport in the U.S.
“We are very fortunate to have what we have relative to our population,” Gustafson said.
The study shows that Salt Lake City ranked so high because of the average fare for a one-way trip. Other factors included safety and the number of trips each person in the metro area takes in a year.
There’s been a 16% increase in riders since the COVID-19 pandemic. UTA is confident that as the quality of public transport increases, so will riders.
The biggest UTA project coming up this spring is a TRAX station in South Jordan. Other future projects include expanding the frontrunner stops and building a new TRAX line.
