Salt Lake City Fire Department Captain Brandt Handcuff told KSL-TV that the wind was pushing the fire around.
“Luckily we’ve been able to keep the fire in check and keep it from spreading to any neighboring businesses,” he said. “And I think we’ll be able to keep this from extending to any of those and creating any hazards to those neighboring properties.”
Handcuff said the fire had engulfed several semi trucks causing their tires to pop.
The fire caused traffic to shut down on 900 S. between 2700 W. and 3200 W.
SLC Fire Department said 2 crews have remained on the scene overnight to keep an eye on and extinguish hot spots.
