Lane closures in Salt Lake City lessen after first NHL home game.

SALT LAKE CITY — Commuters in Salt Lake City had a rough ride through downtown this morning thanks to several lane closures between the Delta Center and State Street. Salt Lake City Transportation Director Jon Larsen says they appreciate people’s patience and that relief is on the way.
“It’s hard to feel like we’re perpetually under construction,” Larsen said. “But it’s a sign that people feel like Salt Lake is worth investing in.”
UDOT oversaw the closure of 300 West. A spokesperson there told KSL NewsRadio they approved the permit for the closure because it would keep all the pedestrians at the hockey celebration safe, and because it was a special occasion.

Both the city and UDOT said they do take other closures and or alternate routes into consideration before letting anyone shut down a major road.
“We appreciate how patient everyone has been,” Larsen said. “Because it is challenging when we have city-driven projects where we’re rebuilding streets. And then we also have a lot of private development.”
The closure of 300 West next to the Delta Center is now over, and Larsen says the lane closures impacting traffic on North Temple and 2nd South are set to be gone by Thanksgiving.
