Liberty Wells man arrested for hitting woman with his car, police say

SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested in the Liberty Well neighborhood Friday afternoon for allegedly hitting a woman with his car, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
According to a press release from the SLCPD, the incident occurred in a parking lot near 604 E. 1300 S.
Officers said the suspect Calvin Smith, 31, allegedly got into an argument over a parking spot.
According to the SLCPD, the 61-year-old victim was standing in a parking spot to save it for a family member.
Smith allegedly saw the empty parking spot, made a U-turn, and drove towards the victim, according to the press release.
The SLCPD said the victim told Smith she was saving the spot before Smith accelerated towards her, striking the victim’s arm with his car when she moved out of the way.
According to the press release, Smith was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on a charge of aggravated assault.
