Salt Lake City shooting victim identified, police seeking suspect

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police have identified a 23-year-old shooting victim who was killed early Friday morning.
Police said the shooting victim, Rory Swimm, died on the scene during life-saving efforts conducted by Salt Lake City first responders.
A bystander called 911 around 1:43 a.m., reporting that someone was on the ground near 600 East and 200 South in Salt Lake City.
Police said they believe Swimm argued with someone. Or, he could have argued with a group of people, they said.
He was shot near the southwest corner of 600 East and 200 South. They also believe that the suspect or suspects got into a car and left the area.
Help from community members or businesses after Salt Lake City shooting
After their initial investigation, Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad is asking for help from community members. Specifically, they’d like people who live or work in the area between 100 South and 400 South, and between 500 East and 700 East, to review home or business security cameras.

Specifically, they’d like neighbors and businesses in that area to look at footage between 1:15 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13.
In a press release, Salt Lake City Police said they’d like to see any footage that shows a group of people walking together. Police also want to look at footage that may show vehicles approaching or leaving the scene and driving quickly.
At the same time, police said the suspects may have left evidence near the scene. Please contact the police if you find anything suspicious.
