SALT LAKE CITY – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released new pictures of the Salt Lake City Temple Friday, as it nears completion.

In 2019, church leaders closed the temple for renovations. The latest estimate for the temple’s reopening is set for 2026.

“As construction continues, guests are invited to experience the progress being made on Temple Square,” the Church said on X. “Several areas are currently open to the public, including the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, the Salt Lake Tabernacle, and the nearby Church History Museum and FamilySearch Library.”

Latest progress pictures highlight sealing rooms, entrance buildings, bride’s suite and assembly room of the place of worship, according to church leaders.

“The celestial room’s ceiling and wall finishes have been carefully restored, and sealing rooms in the north addition now feature historically inspired colors: green in the large rooms, blue in medium rooms and yellow in the smaller rooms,” the Church said.

In accordance with historically-inspired details, chandeliers installed in the sealing rooms were designed “to resemble those from the late 1800s.”

In the bride’s suite, new chandeliers and ceiling medallions have been added, “a welcoming space in the temple for a bride to prepare before and after being sealed for time and eternity to her husband,” the Church’s website said.

In the temple’s large assembly room, finishing touches are in progress — that means parquet flooring has been installed, ceiling work is complete, and all four spiral staircases have been refurbished with “carefully restored” wood.

The Church said crews have made progress on the exterior stonework of the two temple entrance buildings.

“Once completed, this area will serve as a gathering space for guests,” the Church said. “These two buildings will provide a waiting area for patrons and convenient access to the temple.”

“The Salt Lake Temple preservation and restoration efforts are helping to ensure that the historic building remains a place of holiness for generations to come,” the church said.
