SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake City Police Department is preparing to keep the public safe on Monday as celebrations unfold in relation to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the Presidential Inauguration.
SLCPD said in a news release Sunday that the police department is “prepared to have a proactive, careful, and vigilant approach” when it comes to scheduled events occurring on Monday.
The news release talked about how police are keeping “safety and operational continuity” in mind.
“People engaging in violence or property destruction will be investigated, subject to arrest, and criminal charges will be referred to prosecutors,” the news release stated.
Police also added that the police department is working with multiple agencies in order to focus on public safety.
“The SLCPD supports and prioritizes First Amendment activities. However, criminal activity will not be tolerated,” the news release said. “The SLCPD is committed to helping ensure public safety and will take all necessary actions to protect our community.”
SLCPD said there are no specific or known threats in relation to Salt Lake City events scheduled for Monday.
“Leading up to Jan. 20, the SLCPD has taken proactive steps to increase training and operational readiness,” the news release said. “The SLCPD has modified its staffing position for Jan. 20, 2025, and is prepared to respond to any level of crisis to restore stability and safety.”
